The Second Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program is hosting a training of interest to volunteer guardians ad litem and staff.
Join us on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at our offices on Thomasville Road for The Implications of Early Adversity in Advocating for Maltreated Children.
This workshop will address the impact of early adversity on a children's brain development, behavior, mental health, academic success and long-term health and well-being. Using video clips of the science of adversity and attachment, case studies will illustrate signs of trauma and the stress on child health and development. In addition, evidence-based strategies for optimizing early childhood development, such as child parent psychotherapy, will be presented.
Learn the age-related signs of stress and trauma in young children.
Learn about adverse childhood experiences and the effect on child development and well-being.
Learn strategies and evidence-based approaches as therapeutic interventions for change, repairing the parent/child relationship and interrupting the multigenerational cycle of maltreatment.
The workshop will be presented by Dr. Mimi Graham, Director, Florida State University Center for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy. Dr. Graham specializes in policy, training and special projects for vulnerable infants and toddlers.
Participants may receive two (2) hours of continuing education credit. Afterward, report your hours using Optima.
