New Events, Cancellation and Continuing Education Updates

Event Cancellation

Our SB 1108 and SB 850 training event scheduled on Friday, October 3, 2014 as part of the Exceptional Student Education Institute series has been cancelled.

The event page, series blog post and print flyer have been updated to reflect this change. Registration remains open for the series' three remaining training events in October, November and January.

New Events

We regularly host, sponsor and support a variety of events that provide community outreach, increase awareness of our program, help recruit new volunteers, raise funds and furnish training to our volunteer guardians ad litem. The following events were recently added to our calendar.

Save the Date

Following a successful first event in February 2014, the second Child Advocates II CAII Cupcakes and Cookies for Kids fundraiser has been set for Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Leon High School.

Watch this space for more information as we will announce the details about this fun and tasty event in the near future.

Continuing Education

A new library item has been added to our continuing education resource center. You can check out Children's Bureau Express: Spotlight on Back to School in the Educational Advocacy topic.

We have also updated the text in the Annual Requirements section of the Continuing Education page to clarify the hours tracking and reporting process for volunteers.

When completing activities, keep track of the time it takes you to read articles and booklets; watch videos and films; participate in online training; or attend live webinars and face-to-face training. After you complete an activity, report your hours quickly and easily using our eForm.

Finally, the registration and participation process has been further described for the upcoming Educating Traumatized Children Summit webinar event running Tuesday, September 30 through Friday, October 10, 2014. The "How It Works" and "How to Register" sections contain the updates.

If you have any questions about continuing education, please email the training coordinator.

New Continuing Education Resource Library Launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new continuing education resource center, a comprehensive library of free learning tools for our volunteers and staff.

Designed to make it easier to find specific information, the library contains articles, videos, presentations, links and other training resources organized into topics and types.

There are currently over eighty resources available and more will be added in the future. In addition to browsing by topic or type, you can also search for resources by keyword.

In related news, the continuing education form has been revised to simplify the hours reporting process. The updated form offers ten rows to enter activities and no longer includes checkboxes.
