The Second Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program is hosting a continuing education event of interest to volunteer guardians ad litem.

Join us on Wednesday, September 26 and Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at our offices on Thomasville Road for Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Sponsored by Florida AWARE, this two-day course will cover the following topics.

Day One: September 26

  • Prevalence of various mental health disorders impacting youth and the need for reduced stigma in communities

  • Warning signs of mental health problems that may impact youth, primarily those aged twelve to eighteen

  • Risk and protective factors that can impact a youth's mental health and resiliency

Day Two: September 27

  • Apply a five-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to assess the situation; select and implement appropriate interventions; and help the youth in crisis connect with appropriate, evidence-based treatment and supports

  • Community resources available to support you and their families

Participants may receive eight (8) hours of continuing education credit. Afterward, report your hours using Optima.
