Leon County Schools and the Second Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program are hosting a continuing education event of interest to volunteer guardians ad litem who are not yet educational surrogates.

Join us on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at our offices on Thomasville Road for Educational Surrogate Training.

Educational surrogates act as advocates for a child who requires exceptional student education (ESE) services. Responsibilities include making informed decisions about the child's educational needs, attending meetings and monitoring the child's progress.

Successful completion of the training and certification as an educational surrogate will qualify guardians ad litem to provide additional advocacy to children receiving ESE services and who have individualized education programs (IEP) at school.

The session will be conducted by ESE Parent Liaison Chris Heron with Leon County Schools Surrogate Parent Program. Participants may receive one (1) hour of continuing education credit. Afterward, report your hours using Optima.

The training is free. You can download the print flyer and register with the event contact below.
