The Second Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program is hosting a training of interest to volunteer guardians ad litem.
Join us on Friday, September 13, 2013 for Florida's Civil Injunctions for Protection, providing everything you ever wanted to know (and then some) about them. The class will furnish guidance on a number of key questions.
- How many types of civil injunctions are there?
- Who can obtain one?
- How are they granted and enforced?
- What do they achieve?
- Are the legal remedies effective?
- How do I answer a child's questions about injunctions?
The goal of this training is to provide volunteer guardians ad litem with an overview of Florida's civil injunction for protection process as well as a greater understanding of how these various injunctions might relate to their advocacy for children.
At the conclusion of the class, participants will be able to
- Identify Florida's five civil injunctions for protection;
- Define the purpose of Chapter 39 injunctions and their role in protecting both mothers and children;
- Explain the judicial process by which these injunctions are granted and enforced; and
- Analyze the effectiveness of the legal remedies offered by the injunctions, including implications for children.
Speaking at the event will be Austin Newberry of the Florida Supreme Court Office of the State Courts Administrator's Office of Court Improvement.
