On Friday, June 17, 2016, fourteen new volunteers were sworn in as guardians ad litem at the Leon County Courthouse in Tallahassee, Florida.
This was to be the final swearing in ceremony presided over by Circuit Judge Karen A. Gievers, but she was unable to attend due to a judicial hearing in progress.
Fortunately, Chief Judge Jonathan Eric Sjostrom was able to step in at the last minute, offer the use of his hearing room and preside over the ceremony. Circuit Director Deborah Moore, Volunteer Trainer Christine Gornik and several of our existing volunteers were also on hand.
Although obviously out of our control, we do sincerely apologize to the volunteers who came specifically to see Judge Gievers and for not being able to accommodate everyone in the small hearing room.

After a brief welcome and introduction by Moore, Judge Sjostrom began by briefly addressing the group. He then had the volunteers raise their right hands and repeat the oath as administered.
Afterward, he took a few minutes to personally meet each individual and pose for photographs before moving on to his next judicial proceeding.
We are very proud of and thankful for all of our volunteers and the work that they do. Congratulations and welcome to our newest volunteer guardians ad litem!
